As you may know market week and NYFW run back to back. I just got back from the NY NOW trade show and two days later returned to NYC for fashion week. Such a crazy time of year, I am still recovering from it. Also I am now planning to pack my bags for Europe! NYFW is always my favorite time of year when I meet up with my fashion friends and run non-stop to different shows. This fashion week I decided to do a recap of the top shows from each day. This fashion week was very political. For multiple designers theme of their collection was "freedom".

Kendall Miles Presentation

My favorite presentation from fashion week was Kendall Miles. This talented and young shoe designer started her business in college. These luxury, avant-garde pieces are all handmade in Italy. This is where she attended a world-leading fashion school called Ars Sutoria. My favorite piece from the collection is the pink fur strappy heel. Pieces from her collection range from $600-$1550. The prices are actually reasonable for a luxury shoe brand with intricate detail.

Michael Costello

I always look forward to seeing the Michael Costello show. The pieces always have a sensual and daring feeling. This collection showcased fringe details, plunging necklines, and sheer accents. He accessorized some of the dresses with double buckle belts. My favorite dress from the collection was the cut-out, white gown. Michael Costello always attracts celebrity attendees to his shows including Paris Hilton, Ty Hunter, and makeup artist Carli Bybel. Also, I kid you not, there was a pink Care Bear front row at the show.

Lan Yu’s brand LANYU consisted of a palette of neutral and pale pastels. All of the pieces were soft and feminine. A common trend in the collection was delicate lingerie pieces under a variety of outerwear garments. Lan Yu’s collection had played with velvet, ruffles, floral, patterns, corduroy, tweed, and lace. The variety in material was quite enticing.
Hakan Akkaya

Hakan Akkaya's FW17 collection was edgy with a dash of glam. The theme of the collection was "freedom" and the pieces were powerful. Akkaya's pieces stood out under the runway lights with fun metallics and sheer fabrics. Ruffle accents are seen in a few designs to softened up the look. My favorite piece from the collection was the ruffle gown accessorized with a solid belt.

Georgine

GEORGINE is one of my favorite shows of the NYFW season. The luxury womenswear brand started in 2012 by designer Georgine Ratelband. The fall/winter 2017 collection exudes a downtown, edgy spirit featuring a playful mixture of sheer accents, luxurious fabrics, and mesh. My favorite piece is the gold metallic and black mesh dress paired with short black booties. Georgine's impeccable style attracts celebrity clients and attendees to her shows including Stassi Schroeder, Patti Wilson, and Miss J Alexander.
Francesca Liberatore

Fashion is a form of art that paints a picture of what is happening in society without words. Francesca's collection name is called "Freedom". Politics played a huge role in this collection, which was also seen in a lot of designer's collections this season. Liberators explores how political power has effected society and how society's voice effected political power. Freedom of speech, fear, promises are all conductors of the collection. Different figures and powerful words are seen throughout the collection.
